Dear all,
Sloane Helicopters Mallorca spend a large amount of time flying over the Mediterranean and it is not uncommon to see amazing sea life such as Whales, Dolphins, Turtles and even Manta Rays whilst on our travels.
In recent years the environment has become a big topic and with this in mind Sloane Helicopters Mallorca has teamed up with two different conservation organisations to assist in the study of such sea life in the Mediterranean.
WDCS is a large world wide charity dedicated to the conservation of all cetaceans (Whales and Dolphins). Sloane Helicopters Mallorca is now affiliated with the WDCS and we are assisting in the counting and monitoring of sea life through out the Mediterranean.
The WDCS website holds much more information on Mediterranean Sea life, and also has helpful information to assist in identifying animals.
Ocean SunfishAlso know locally as “Bot” in Mallorca, these large fish can be up to 3 metres in length and the average weight is over 1 tonne!
One of the reasons for its name is that the Sunfish often lie on the surface basking in the sun. Their light grey colour and size often make them visible from above.
More information about Ocean Sunfish is available from http://oceansunfish.org/index.php
Sloane Helicopters Mallorca is in a unique position where we see many different types of sea life, from where nobody else normally would
If you’re flying through the Mediterranean and come across any unusual sea life such as Whales, Dolphins, Sunfish, Turtles or Rays where possible please try and note the following details:
Date:
Time:
Location:
GPS Coordinates:
Animals:
Numbers:
Distinguishing Features:
Also if it is possible to photograph any sea life, please do so and pass on this information to Jonny. Jonny will ensure that it is passed onto the relevant groups for their records.

Cheers,
Sloane Mallorca
