Sloane Helicopters has been in operation for over 30 years in the UK. It is based in Sywell, Northampton. It is the UK and Eire distributor for Agusta and Robinson helicopters.
In 1995 Sloane Helicopters Mallorca was formed and has operated from Son Bonet for over 15 years. Sloane Helicopters Mallorca is fully approved by the CAA and operates a flying school offering the JAA Private Pilots Licence and much more.
We also specialise in Commercial Charter and Aerial Photography.
Son Bonet (N39 35.9 E002 42.2)
Son Bonet was Mallorca's original airport, opened in 1936, and has been in operation ever since. Located 5 miles north of the city of Palma it has great accessibility, with the motorway running alongside, a dedicated bus service and its own train station (Pont D'Inca Nou).
In 1964 Son Sant Joan (Palma International) Airport opened just 5 miles South East leaving Son Bonet as a dedicated General Aviation Aerodrome. Son Bonet is fully licensed VFR aerodrome with fire cover and fuel (Avgas & Jet A1). It has a 3000ft asphalt runway and apron.
It is perfect for training with the facilities it offers and year round weather conditions.
Office & Facilities
Sloane Helicopters Mallorca's office is in the original section of Son Bonet Aerodrome. It is fully air-conditioned for those long hot summers we have.
It consists of a main area & front desk, 2 briefing rooms, and Student room. The Student Room is fully equipped with all the reading materials, videos & training aids you need. It also has tea/coffee making facilities.
The Student Room also has a dedicated computer allowing you free internet access, email and further training materials. The office is also WIFI enabled to allow our customers with laptops and PDA's to access their emails.
The Helicopters are kept in a hangar on the apron.
Pilots
Jonny Greenall, Chief Pilot
Jonny has been flying for 15 years, first with the Air Cadets, in Chipmunks and Vigilant Gliders. He has lived in Mallorca since 1993 and learnt to fly the Robinson R22 & R44 with Sloane Helicopters Mallorca.
He then went onto complete his Commercial Helicopter Licence and Instructor Rating with Sloane Helicopters (at Sywell & Mallorca). Jonny also has his JAA Fixed wing licence.
Additionally, Jonny is the school's CAA Radiotelephony Examiner. As of 2008 Jonny is also a fully qualified CAA Flight Examiner
Paul Cakebread, Pilot
Paul joined Sloane Helicopters Mallorca in early 2007 and is a fully qualified Commercial Pilot and Instructor.
His previous experience includes flying the Super Pumas to the Oil Rigs in the North Sea. He also holds a Single Pilot IFR Rating and licensed on the EC135, R22 and R44.
Alastair Sutherland, Resident CAA Examiner
Alastair has been flying for over 20 years and more than 9000 hours flight time. Alastair has also won the British Helicopter Championships over 5 times! Alastair is one of the highest timed Robinson pilots in Europe. He also flies Citation Jets.
He has been flying in Mallorca since its inauguration in 1995 and is Sloane Helicopters Mallorca resident CAA Examiner.
